After a very successful Beef Week Open Day and Bull Sale Preview at our new bull sale complex, our focus has now well and truly turned to our Annual Wattlewood Angus Bull Sale, to be held on Thursday 5th March at 4pm at our NEW LOCATION; 4770 South Gippsland Hwy, Lang Lang Vic 3984
It was incredibly rewarding to see the new sale venue come to life at the recent open day. What started as a collection of ideas has evolved over months of hard work, planning and plenty of support, and we were thrilled with the positive feedback from everyone who attended. Seeing visitors enjoy the space and appreciate what we’ve created made the effort well worthwhile.
Alongside the venue, we were especially pleased with the feedback on the bulls themselves. Past buyers, new visitors and livestock agents alike commented on their sound structure, shape and quiet temperament — traits we’ve placed strong emphasis on over the decades of operating Wattlewood Angus here at Lang Lang.
Despite the challenging start to spring that Gippsland experienced, the bulls have come along exceptionally well.
“They’re just so easy doing,” Fiona says. “They’ve had all their vaccinations and boosters to meet Immune Ready compliance, they’ve passed semen testing and have been genotyped, so producers can genuinely buy with confidence.”
Providing that confidence to our bull buyers has always been a priority for us, which is why we’re pleased to once again offer our after-sale bull care program. If requested, we’re happy to travel to you and administer your new Wattlewood bull’s annual vaccination boosters. Full details can be found in the back of the Wattlewood catalogue.
When it comes to selecting the genetics we use within our herd, functionality is paramount. We place strong emphasis on feet and leg structure, low to moderate birth weights, balanced EBVs, and quiet temperament — ill-tempered animals are simply not tolerated here. At the same time, the end product remains front of mind, with careful selection for carcass traits such as IMF and feed efficiency.
While we take great pride in breeding bulls that will go out and perform, we’re always conscious that it’s the females — the sisters — who form the backbone of the next generation.
“We place a lot of emphasis on our breeding herd,” Fiona explains. “They contribute 50 per cent of the next generation, and we want longevity in our cows. We love our females and breed with that long-term focus in mind.”
We’re very much looking forward to officially christening the new sale complex at our Annual Bull Sale and invite attendees to stay on after proceedings to enjoy nibbles and light refreshments. We’d love to welcome you, catch up and answer any questions you may have.
